Sample Analysis Program (SCAN)SCAN logo

The 10CFR61 Sample Analysis Program was first introduced in 1991 as a user friendly platform for performing expert level analysis of radiochemical data.  The analysis focuses on determining scaling factors for long-lived, difficult to measure radionuclides.  Version 3 of the Sample Analysis retains the familiar features of Version 2 while enhancing program performance and adding new data views.

The program displays the data in two formats either as a scatter plotor in a trend format.  You can toggle the display from the window menu. You can print the graph with calculation results as a calculation record or copy it to the clipboard for use in other documents new with Version 3 is a statistical report which shows a breakdown of results for all of the included waste streams as well as pooled variance of each stream with the full set of data and between streams.  This information aid in making decisions on the combining of streams for sampling.  Pooled variance comparisons are presented as difference factors at the 95% confidence level.

Why You should Be Using the Sample Analysis Program

The program maintains an online basis for all of your scaling factor calculations.  It provides a clear and consistent sanity check on values generated from your shipping program.  Its faster and safer than spreadsheet methods. The program maximizes the value of your sample data and will save you money by giving you the means to extend sample frequency and reduce laboratory analytical tasks.  With greater confidence in the scaling factors that you use, you can reduce reported quantities of long-lived nuclides.  Even if your plant is shutdown you can use the new decay correction features to continue scaling factor tracking.
